History of the hotel "Zum Dorfbrunnen"
Tradition, Community, Meeting point, Personality – these are only a few words to describe the institution of the hotel „Zum Dorfbrunnen“.
Our history dates back to the year of 1977.
1977
The mayor and contractor Klaus Mäs decided to create a place to relax and indulge the inhabitants of the town after one of the oldest restaurants was closed.
1. Mai 1978
Beginning of the construction work
After the demolition of the storehouses and excavations of the huge area of around 2000 m², the diligent workers accomplished the first step. The goal was quite high, as to this time the opening date was already set: On November, 15th 1978 the doors of the new hotel and restaurant were opened for the first time.

The restaurant „Zum Dorfbrunnen“ opens its doors for the first time
Thanks to the efforts of many local companies and the staff of the construction company Klaus Mäs, the commitment of the Mäs family and the support of the neighborhood, this property has been realized in such a short time. Since then, the restaurant has been a meeting place for all guests.
1. März 1982
Expansion by several event rooms and building of the first guest rooms
We did not think of such a huge rush of guests to our hotel, this is why we needed more space for festivities and events. In a short time, two more restaurants, club rooms, a large event hall and three bowling alleys have been built. As we not only had guests from our neighbourhood but also from different cities, we built the first six guest rooms to present our hospitality to guests from around the world.
17. Mai 1983
Beginning of numerous visits by high-ranked politicians
In this year, our house attracts high-ranked international politicians. The former chancellor of Germany, Helmut Kohl, honours our house with a visit of the entire fraction of the CDU in the Federal Parliament. Angela Merkel, Edmund Stoiber, Theo Waigel, Wolfgang Schäuble and many more cause a media-hype which lasted for weeks. The enthusiam still lasts – this allows us to welcome the fraction with more than 300 people every year.

Expansion of 12 more rooms and the kitchen
14. April 1992
Rising number of hotel guests, new rooms have to be built
14 more guest rooms had to be built – this made our Hotel & Restaurant „Zum Dorfbrunnen“ the largest Hotel in the city of Bornheim.
1. Januar 2000
The new generation takes over
Peter-Heinz Dieter Mäs becomes director. The youngest son of Klaus Mäs Peter-Heinz Dieter Mäs buys the Hotel & Restaurant „Zum Dorfbrunnen“ and leads the business since then. Also new are the tasteful buffet on Sundays and Festive days. At these events we provide our guests with quality which reminds one of days at grandmother’s.

Celebration of our anniversary: 35 years Hotel & Restaurant "Zum Dorfbrunnen"
35 years our existence is a reason to celebrate. Guests and friends are invited to this anniversary and encouraged to continue this successful story.

The institution Zum Dorfbrunnen is made ready for the future in its third generation
In the third generation, daughter Cathrin Maes takes over the family business. The graduated business administrator gained many experiences through working in well-known companies in order to bring this profitably into the future of the established and renowned hotel restaurant. We’re looking forward to it!

The story of success continues, even today we are looking excitedly towards our 40th anniversary.
